Snail Mail Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Ricochet’ with New Single “Dead End”
Snail Mail had an eventful summer tour where she introduced fans to new songs, sparking excitement for a potential new album coming their way. In a stroke of foresight, Lindsey Jordan is indeed ready to release a new LP titled Ricochet, her first since 2021’s Valentine. The album is set to drop in March through Matador Records. Lindsey worked on the album with Aron Kobayashi Ritch from Momma at Fidelitorium Recordings in her new residence in North Carolina, along with utilizing the facilities at Nightfly and Studio G in Brooklyn.
The lead single from Ricochet, “Dead End,” has been unveiled, and it brings a strong sense of mid-’90s alternative rock vibes. The song features textures reminiscent of iconic albums like The Bends or Mellon Collie, and at times, it even echoes the strum pattern from “Wonderwall.” However, the smooth and melancholic feel of the track also harks back to the emotional depth found in Color Theory by Soccer Mommy, a long-time contemporary of Snail Mail. The captivating wordless “nah nah nah” section towards the end adds another layer of magic to the track.
In the creation of the music video for “Dead End,” Jordan collaborated with Elsie Richter to capture the essence of the song visually. In a press release, Lindsey shared, “We shot the video for ‘Dead End’ in random places all around rural North Carolina between the hours of 5pm and 4am on one of the coldest nights of my life. The goal was to be inconspicuous with the fireworks, but someone called the cops on us.” The result is a mesmerizing visual representation of the song that perfectly complements its mood.
The tracklist for Ricochet has also been revealed, giving fans a glimpse into what to expect from the upcoming album. With titles like “Tractor Beam,” “Agony Freak,” and “Butterfly,” the album promises to take listeners on a journey through a range of emotions and experiences. Ricochet is scheduled for release on March 27th via Matador Records, and pre-orders are already available for eager fans.
Snail Mail’s return with Ricochet is poised to solidify her place in the indie rock scene, showcasing her growth as an artist and her ability to connect with audiences through her music. The anticipation and excitement surrounding the release of the album are palpable, and fans can expect to be taken on a musical journey filled with depth, emotion, and captivating storytelling. Get ready to dive into the world of Snail Mail once again with Ricochet.
