forward to attending this event, as I had attended in the past and find it to be an excellent representation of the mission of Our Mother’s Home. This organization aims to empower young mothers within the foster care and human trafficking systems to break the generational cycle for themselves and their children. The theme of the event, “A Seat at the Table,” reflects the organization’s commitment to ensuring these young women have both a literal and figurative seat at the table in society.
The fundraising event was not only a fun evening with a delicious dinner and silent auction but also a thought-provoking one. The moderator, Jason Teeters, led discussions on topics related to the cause, sparking conversations and inspiring attendees to share their stories. I had the pleasure of sitting with friends from my Mahjong group, including Maureen Green, Jen McWhinnie, Sunny Lubner, Liz Abbott, Sharyn Rosenblum, and Melissa Vogt. We enjoyed seeing familiar faces like Cole and Rachel Peacock, Kehrin Hassan, Neil Volz, Marin Asher, Kristalyn Atwood, and many others. A special mention goes to Angela Rackley-Meadows, the Executive Director & CEO of Our Mother’s Home, whose speech about her first year with the organization was touching, funny, and deeply heartfelt.
Another event that brought friends together was the celebration of Terry Tincher’s 70th birthday. Terry is a well-known figure in downtown Fort Myers, having played a significant role in its revitalization over the years. The birthday celebration hosted by artist Jane Lane was an opportunity to honor Terry’s contributions to the community. Local art legends like Lucas Century, Mary Voytek, and Pat Collins, along with other guests, came together to toast Terry’s milestone birthday.
To wrap up the week, I had the pleasure of attending the first Fort Myers Farmers Market of the year. Held in downtown Fort Myers every Saturday, the market offers a wide variety of products, including fresh produce, seafood, juices, coffees, teas, pickles, olives, cheese, flowers, and clothes. It was heartwarming to see Mayor Kevin Anderson and his wife Krista at the market, along with other familiar faces like Brad Cozza, Kenny Brewer, Ginny Henderson, and Joyce Owens, as well as many visitors exploring the offerings.
Overall, January has been a month filled with social events and community gatherings, and I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in these meaningful occasions. As we continue into the new year, I look forward to more opportunities to come together with friends, support important causes, and celebrate the milestones of those who have made a positive impact on our community.
