Foghat to perform at MACC on February 5
Classic rock band Foghat will electrify the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on February 5 as part of their Twang & Bang Tour. The band, known for hits like “Slow Ride” and “Fool for the City,” is led by founding drummer Roger Earl, who, at 79 years old, is still passionate about performing and making music.
Earl expressed his gratitude for being able to make a living doing what he loves, playing in a band that continues to produce records and chart-topping singles. He, along with long-time guitarist Bryan Bassett, bassist Rodney O’Quinn, and lead vocalist/guitarist Scott Holt, promises an unforgettable performance that keeps the spirit of classic rock alive.
Formed in London in 1971, Foghat’s distinctive sound blends raw British blues with boogie rock, showcasing Earl’s expertise on the drums. Prior to Foghat, Earl had the opportunity to audition for Jimi Hendrix, a moment he fondly remembers as a pivotal experience in his career.
Foghat achieved commercial success with their platinum-selling album “Fool for the City,” featuring the iconic track “Slow Ride.” The band’s ability to arrange and play songs that reflected their unique style and influences, including blues and rock and roll, set them apart in the music industry.
Their commitment to honoring the blues legends who inspired them is evident in their musical tributes, such as covering Elmore James’ “Shake Your Moneymaker” and Willie Dixon’s “Rollin’ & Tumblin’.” Fans and critics alike praise the band for their powerful performances and electrifying guitar solos.
In addition to their musical prowess, Foghat members have had the privilege of meeting and collaborating with legendary blues artists like Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters. These encounters, along with recording songs that pay tribute to the blues genre, have left a lasting impact on the band’s creative direction and musical journey.
The band’s most recent album, “Sonic Mojo,” released in 2023, received critical acclaim as one of their finest works in over two decades. Their ability to evolve and stay true to their roots has solidified their status as rock icons who continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
Foghat’s upcoming performance at the MACC’s Castle Theater promises a night of high-energy rock and roll, with a dance floor available for attendees to groove along with the music. Tickets range from $37 to $77, with preferred seating options for those looking for a premium concert experience.
