New video shows Alex Pretti confronting ICE before shooting incident
The emergence of a recently discovered video suggests that Alex Pretti was involved in a confrontation with federal agents before his fatal shooting in Minneapolis, as shown in the video. A man who strongly resembles Pretti was among a group of individuals yelling at agents who were obstructing an intersection in Minneapolis on January 13, merely 11 days before he was tragically shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent. In the footage, the man is observed kicking a federal vehicle and damaging a light before agents exited the vehicle, pushed him, and tackled him to the ground, leading to gas being discharged into the crowd.
Following this incident, the agents rise to their feet, and the Pretti look-alike, with a visible gun on his waistband, walks away from the altercation. The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged its awareness of the recently surfaced video footage and is currently reviewing it.
Shortly after the video was shared online, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller made a statement to ABC News on January 28. Miller mentioned that President Donald Trump’s administration was in the process of assessing why the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents might not have adhered to protocol during the fatal shooting of Pretti in Minneapolis. Initially, Miller referred to Pretti as a “would-be assassin” and a “domestic terrorist” who attempted to take the life of federal law enforcement officers while speaking on FOX News shortly after the fatal shooting. However, in his latest communication, Miller appears to question the actions of ICE officials during the incident.
Regarding President Trump, his engagement with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was characterized as ‘very good’ on January 26 following Pretti’s tragic death. Previously, Trump had attributed the incitement of anti-ICE protesters, including Pretti, to Walz and Frey following the fatal shooting. Notwithstanding, videos shared online depicted multiple ICE agents subduing Pretti and disarming him before an officer fired several shots during an anti-ICE demonstration in Minneapolis.
These events unfolded just weeks after Renée Good met a similar fate, being fatally shot by an ICE officer during a protest in Minneapolis. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has ardently called for a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation concerning the shooting, while a federal judge has barred the Trump administration from tampering with or destroying evidence related to the incident.
