Teen Suicide reveals new album and releases single “Idiot”
Teen Suicide has officially announced the release of their upcoming album, “Nude Descending Staircase Headless,” which is set to debut on April 17 through Run for Cover. The band is excited to share that this album marks their first “proper studio recording,” produced by Mike Sapone. In a departure from their previous recordings done on laptops or tape with limited resources, this album represents a new level of musical exploration for the band.
Sam Ray reflects on the band’s evolution, noting that they have been pigeonholed as a lo-fi band due to their previous recording methods. With this new album, they are breaking free from those constraints. “On the older records everything was self-recorded, home-recorded, on a laptop or on tape, and always with really limited resources,” Ray says. “I think we became known for that but it was also very limiting to be seen as a lo-fi band.”
Kitty Ray sheds light on the emotional underpinnings of their music, explaining that their songwriting process is fueled by external torment. “I think to write this kind of music you sort of have to pull from torment. Our torment is more external. This is what we do; the only thing we know is making music, so the existential perils of these ever-changing machines and systems we’re trying to exist within is the stuff that’s driving us insane when we sit down to write a song.” This raw emotion and vulnerability underpins the band’s musical journey, as they navigate the complexities of existence through their art.
The band has also released their first single from the album, titled “Idiot.” This track showcases a heavier sound for Teen Suicide, hinting at a new direction for their music. The accompanying music video, directed and animated by Wyatt Carson, provides a visual complement to the visceral energy of the song.
Included in the album is a tracklist featuring 13 songs, each offering a unique perspective and sonic experience.
