A beloved ‘90s singer is set to make a triumphant return with her first new solo album in six years. Melanie Chisholm, famously known as a member of the iconic girl group Spice Girls as Sporty Spice, previewed her upcoming ninth studio album, “Sweat,” by dropping a new single, “What Could Possibly Go Wrong?,” on Friday.

Expressing her excitement about the new song, Chisholm shared that the track allowed her and her collaborators to explore the various dimensions of music and life with a playful twist. The singer mentioned that the song delves into themes of taking risks, trusting oneself, and embracing challenges, believing that many listeners will identify with its message.

The lead single, “Sweat,” which was unveiled in October, is described as a dance anthem that samples Diana Ross’ “Work That Body” and embodies the spirit of liberation and freedom found in dance culture. Chisholm expressed her enthusiasm for her forthcoming album, “Sweat,” revealing that it was crafted in creative spaces across Stockholm and Los Angeles. The album is scheduled to be released through Virgin Music Group along with Chisholm’s independent label, Red Girl Records and marks her first full-length music project since her 2020 album, “Melanie C.”

Looking forward to sharing her new music with her fans, Chisholm expressed her joy at partnering with Virgin Music Group, seeing it as a homecoming given their previous collaborations during her time with Spice Girls and her prior solo projects. The singer commended the record label for championing artists and providing a platform for creative expression, mentioning her excitement about the opportunities their collaboration could bring.

Chisholm’s rise to fame as a member of Spice Girls propelled her into the music spotlight, achieving international success with hit songs like “Wannabe,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “2 Become 1.” Since the group disbanded in 2000, Chisholm embarked on a successful solo career, delivering chart-topping singles such as “I Turn to You” and “Never Be the Same Again” from her debut solo album, “Northern Star.”

Throughout her career, Chisholm not only continued to release solo music but also reunited with the Spice Girls for two global tours, reinforcing her status as a beloved pop icon. Her appearances on popular television shows like “Dancing with the Stars,” “The Voice Australia,” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK vs The World” further showcased her versatility as an artist.

After taking time to reflect and explore new avenues like DJing, Chisholm felt inspired to return to her roots and focus on creating fresh, invigorating music that would uplift and energize audiences. With her upcoming album, “Sweat,” slated for release on May 1, fans can look forward to experiencing a reinvigorated Melanie C as she brings her signature style and infectious energy back to the forefront of the music scene.
