Ribs-N-Rock announces lineup as acts compete in Fed Frenzy

After enduring several weeks of frigid temperatures and snow, I, like many others, am eagerly anticipating the return of weather that beckons us outdoors without shivering. This week brought a couple of hints of warmer days to come. Westside Bowl will host a showdown where the audience can vote for one of the performers at this year’s Federal Frenzy in downtown Youngstown.

The battle-of-the-bands-style event will feature zoloft!, Doomsday Darling, Mo Turk, Brake Fluid, SJ the Artisan, and Drifting Thing and the Future Ghosts, showcasing a diverse range of music styles from hip hop to psychedelic indie horn rock. The stakes are high, with the top vote-getter securing a performance slot at Federal Frenzy, scheduled as a one-day event from 2 to 11 p.m. on April 18. While exact venues are still being finalized, this year’s event will center around the West Federal Street area, promising a vibrant musical experience.

At the Face-Off event on Friday at Westside Bowl, located at 2617 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, attendees can enjoy the performances free of charge, with shuttle services available for YSU students between the campus and the venue. Additionally, the Ribs-N-Rock Festival lineup at Southern Park Mall in Boardman has been unveiled, offering three days of delicious barbecue and live music from June 11 to 13.

Popular acts like The Clarks, known for their regional acclaim and hit song “Better Off Without You,” will grace the stage on June 12. The festival’s opening night will feature Trapt, renowned for their chart-topping track “Headstrong,” followed by Puddle of Mudd closing the event on June 13 with their string of mainstream rock hits. The festival’s musical lineup promises a mix of classic favorites and rising talents, along with diverse barbecue offerings from top-notch grillmasters.

In an exciting announcement, the Nelsonville Music Festival in southeast Ohio revealed the first wave of performers for its upcoming event from June 18 to 20. The diverse lineup includes Wednesday, Geese, Mon Rovîa, and other talented acts, ensuring a memorable musical experience for attendees.

Beyond the Mahoning Valley, big outdoor shows are also on the horizon for fans of different music genres, from anthemic stoner folk to face tattoo enthusiasts.
