Megadeth first made its mark on the Billboard 200 chart in 1986 with the album “Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?”. Over the course of 39 years, they have secured 23 album placements on the chart, with their previous highest position being number two for the album “Countdown to Extinction” in 1992.
The success of the self-titled album was strategically bolstered by various marketing initiatives, including the screening of the Megadeth: Behind the Mask documentary in theaters a day before the album’s official release. Moreover, the availability of numerous vinyl variants and exclusive editions significantly contributed to the robust physical sales figure, reaching 56,000 units. The resurgence of hard rock music to the top of the Billboard 200 provides a refreshing boost to the genre following its last chart-topping moment with Sleep Token in May 2025.
