Emerging Canadian Country Artists Meghan Patrick and Kalsey Kulyk Gain Recognition
Two rising Canadian country stars, Meghan Patrick and Kalsey Kulyk, are currently making waves on the Billboard Canada Airplay charts. Meghan Patrick, hailing from Bowmanville, Ontario, has landed at No. 37 on the Canada Country chart with her track “Safe Place To Break.” This heartfelt country ballad pays tribute to her partner, Mitchell Tenpenny, and speaks of finding comfort, peace, and resilience in a supportive relationship. Patrick’s emotive vocals and sincere lyrics convey a sense of security and reliance on her significant other, making for a touching and poignant song.
Released as part of her 2024 album “Golden Child,” “Safe Place To Break” is one of six tracks that offer a glimpse into Patrick’s journey of healing and emotional exploration. The deluxe edition of the Juno-nominated album signifies a positive chapter for the artist as she moves forward with fresh music. Meanwhile, Kalsey Kulyk, a talent from Saskatchewan, graces the charts with her debut track “Till I Get To Heaven” at No. 50 on the All-Format chart. Infused with traditional country elements and lively production, the song embodies a spirited declaration of living life to the fullest without regrets. Kulyk’s spirited vocals, reminiscent of a classic jukebox atmosphere, add charm and authenticity to her performance.
The track “Till I Get To Heaven” was co-written by Kulyk alongside noted songwriters Phil Barton and Liz Rose, who she has long admired. Kulyk’s admiration for Liz Rose, dating back to her teenage years listening to Taylor Swift, culminated in a collaborative effort that has resonated with audiences. On a broader scale, Canadian country musicians are making a strong impression beyond just the country genre. Josh Stumpf, another artist from Saskatchewan, debuts at No. 47 on the All-Format chart with “Nobody Roads,” while Boy Golden from Winnipeg enters the Mainstream Rock chart at No. 40 with his hit “Suffer,” which has enjoyed a 10-week run at No. 1 on the Modern Rock chart.
In addition to these promising debuts, familiar names continue to dominate the charts. Taylor Swift’s “The Fate of Ophelia” maintains its position at No. 1 on both the All-Format and AC charts, while Olivia Dean’s Grammy-winning track “Man I Need” stays atop the CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC charts. Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” and Three Days Grace’s “Kill Me Fast” also hold onto their top spots on the Country and Mainstream Rock charts, respectively. The Billboard Canada Airplay charts offer a comprehensive look at the diverse and vibrant music landscape in the country, highlighting both established and emerging talents across various genres.
