Man accused of assaulting police officer and resisting arrest in Cape Rock Park
A man is currently facing serious charges after allegedly engaging in violent behavior towards a police officer and resisting arrest at Cape Rock Park in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. According to the local authorities, the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the incident took place early Sunday morning at around 12:21 a.m.
The encounter occurred when an officer approached Jacob M. Carter in the Upper Circle area of Cape Rock Park to address a park curfew violation. During the interaction, the officer discovered that Carter had an active warrant from Union County, Illinois. When the officer tried to detain Carter in connection with the warrant, Carter reportedly refused to cooperate and physically resisted the arrest process. Despite the officer deploying a Taser in an attempt to subdue Carter, he persisted in resisting and even went as far as attempting to disarm the officer, causing harm in the process.
Additional police officers arrived on the scene to provide backup and eventually succeeded in taking Carter into custody after he continued to resist their efforts. Subsequently, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office filed multiple felony charges against Carter, including two counts of first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, classified as Class A felonies, two counts of resisting arrest, punishable as Class E felonies, and one count of attempted disarming of a peace officer, a Class E felony.
As of now, Carter is being detained on a no-bond warrant, awaiting further legal proceedings. It is important to note that an arrest or accusation does not equate to guilt, and every individual is considered innocent until proven otherwise within a court of law.
