Pearl Jam made a noteworthy debut on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart this week with their 1991 track “Black” from the album Ten, claiming the No. 24 spot. This marks the band’s second appearance on the ranking, securing their highest position to date.

Surpassing their previous peak of No. 25 achieved by “Even Flow” less than three years ago, “Black” has quickly made its mark on the charts. Despite only spending one week on the list, “Even Flow’s” success pales in comparison to the rising popularity of “Black.”

“Black” further climbed to an impressive No. 3 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart and even broke into the top 20 on the Alternative Airplay list. Surprisingly, this particular track was never released as an official single, as the band resisted record company pressure.

In response to the demands of the music industry, Eddie Vedder expressed his aversion to participating in such business practices, stating, “Fragile songs get crushed by the business… I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t think the band wants to be part of it.”

Following the release of Dark Matter in spring 2024, Pearl Jam is currently in between projects. The band extensively promoted Dark Matter with multiple singles and an extensive tour that concluded in mid-2025.

Coinciding with the debut of “Black” on the charts, Ten rose one spot to claim No. 23 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. With an impressive 194-week run in the top 25, the album has outperformed all of the band’s other projects.

Notably, Ten stands out as one of eight No. 1 albums that Pearl Jam has achieved on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. Despite its initial release two decades earlier, the album first hit the summit in April 2009. Other chart-toppers include Lightning Bolt, Dark Matter, Backspacer, Gigaton, and Rearviewmirror: Greatest Hits 1991–2003.

This recent success on the charts demonstrates the enduring popularity and influence of Pearl Jam as they continue to captivate audiences with their iconic music.
