Deep Ellum, the iconic neighborhood in Dallas, is known for its ever-changing landscape. However, amidst the evolving scene, some things remain constant, such as the enduring presence of the Reverend Horton Heat. Formed by singer-guitarist Jim “Reverend Horton” Heath, this psychobilly trio emerged as one of the early acts to come out of Deep Ellum during its revitalization in the 1980s. Since then, the band has maintained its gritty and authentic roots, standing the test of time.

In celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Reverend Horton Heat has unveiled a new track and accompanying music video titled “Rock and Roll is Now.” This energetic release pays homage to the timeless sound of classic hits like the Trashmen’s 1963 hit “Surfin’ Bird” and the Rivingtons’ 1962 R&B anthem “Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow.” The band’s upcoming performance at Trees will not only showcase their new material but also serve as an album release party for the opening act, the Texas Zephyrs, a retro-influenced rock and country group hailing from Fort Worth.

With a gig scheduled for 8 p.m. on Feb 21st at Trees in Dallas, fans can catch a live performance by the Reverend Horton Heat and the Texas Zephyrs for just $14. The venue, located at 2709 Elm St., promises an evening filled with electrifying music and nostalgic vibes, perfect for those looking to experience a blend of rock and country with a modern twist.

Deep Ellum’s music scene may have undergone numerous transformations over the years, but the Reverend Horton Heat has remained a steadfast presence, delivering their signature brand of psychobilly with unmatched energy and authenticity. As they celebrate four decades in the industry, the band continues to captivate audiences with their unique sound and undeniable stage presence, solidifying their status as a cornerstone of the Dallas music scene.

In a city known for its vibrant musical heritage, the Reverend Horton Heat stands out as a testament to the enduring spirit of Deep Ellum, embodying the raw, unbridled energy that has defined the neighborhood for generations.
