Gun Outfit Reveals Upcoming Album ‘Process & Reality’ with a Preview of “Unfelt Loss”
Gun Outfit has been off the radar for quite some time now. The enigmatic duo from LA, by way of Olympia, last released their album Out Of Range in 2017. However, in 2021, they made a cameo in the film Slow Machine alongside Eleanor Friedberger and Chloë Sevigny. Today, Gun Outfit has announced their return with an upcoming 80-minute double album that they actually recorded several years ago.
The new Gun Outfit album, titled Process & Reality, draws inspiration from the work of philosopher Alfred North Whitehead and was recorded in a California ranch during the intense 2020 wildfire season. Joining the band’s core members, Dylan Sharp and Carrie Keith, on this LP are drummer Daniel Swire, multi-instrumentalist Henry Barnes, and bassist Kayla Cohen, with additional contributions from Chris Cohen, Warren Le, and Danny Sasaki. Sharp expressed in a press release, “I hope it provides listeners at least somewhat relaxing and hopeful. We are in the midst of an insane strategy of tension situation in the US and this is just an invitation to fade in and out and remember your friends and not get too stressed out all the time, even it appears we are hurtling over the edge into absolute cynicism and depravity.”
Included in Process & Reality is “Teardrops (Classic Hell On Earth),” a track that the band first introduced during a 2019 performance at the Getty Museum. The album also features the new single “Unfelt Loss,” a warm, psychedelic campfire tune accompanied by a video directed by Joe DeNardo. The full tracklist for the album includes 19 songs, with “Unfelt Loss” kicking off the collection.
Alongside the album announcement, Gun Outfit also shared their upcoming tour dates. They will be performing on 2/15 in Hudson, NY at Half Moon Bay, 2/16 in Philadelphia, PA at Beautiful World Syndicate, and 2/17 in Brooklyn, NY at Union Pool. Process & Reality is set to release on 5/12 under Upset The Rhythm.
