The upcoming 80th birthday of Bon Scott, the iconic AC/DC frontman, is set to be commemorated with a series of global events and exclusive releases by the Bon Scott Estate. Despite passing away 46 years ago, Bon Scott’s influence and distinctive voice continue to resonate within the rock and roll community. The Estate, partnering with Perryscope Productions, is planning an array of activities worldwide to honor Scott’s legacy on his milestone birthday.

Born Ronald Belford Scott in Forfar, Scotland in 1946, Bon Scott’s formative years in Australia were instrumental in shaping his musical journey. From participating in the local pipe band in Kirriemuir to leading bands like The Spektors and later The Valentines in Perth, Scott’s roots in the Australian music scene were strong. His time with progressive rock band Fraternity, including shows in the UK and performances alongside Geordie featuring Brian Johnson in 1973, eventually led him to join AC/DC in 1974.

Reflecting on Scott’s persona, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick described him as a “pirate” with a combination of toughness and charm. Nielsen recalled a personal memory of introducing Scott to Mexican food, highlighting the unique qualities that endeared him to others. Throughout six studio albums, particularly culminating in the seminal record “Highway To Hell” in 1979, Scott co-wrote enduring classics that have become synonymous with hard rock.

To honor Scott’s 80th birthday, Neumann will release a limited-edition product in collaboration with the Estate. Additionally, The Perth Mint will offer exclusive collector silver and gold bars featuring Scott’s likeness following the success of the 2024 silver proof coin. Renowned artist Reg Mombassa has crafted special commemorative artwork for posters and apparel, while collectible specialists Knucklebonz are preparing a new statue inspired by the 1978 Powerage tour.

Apparel collections paying homage to Bon Scott will also be launched, including exclusive designs from Dixxon Flannel Co. and Copa Football Jerseys. These pieces draw inspiration from the officially registered Bon Scott tartans created in collaboration with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers of Edinburgh. As part of the celebration, archival footage provided by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation will be showcased on Scott’s official YouTube channel, featuring interviews with industry contemporaries and admirers.

Live tributes in Scotland and the United States will honor Scott’s legacy, with events like the Bonfest and Bon’s Birthday Bash featuring guest vocalists and commemorative screenings. AC/DC’s ongoing PWR UP tour continues to spotlight classic songs co-written by Scott, keeping his spirit alive in performances worldwide. Notably, statues erected in Fremantle and Kirriemuir serve as pilgrimage spots for fans, symbolizing Scott’s enduring impact on global rock culture.

As the 80th birthday celebrations approach, it is evident that Scott’s music, voice, and legacy remain as vibrant and influential as ever. The upcoming events and exclusive releases serve as a testament to his lasting imprint on the world of rock and roll.
