Cola reveals upcoming album ‘Cost Of Living Adjustment’, listen to new single “Hedgesitting”
Four and a half years have passed since the dissolution of the Montreal post-punk ensemble Ought, resulting in the formation of a new project named Cola by two of the previous members in collaboration with Evan Cartwright, known for his work with U.S. Girls. During this period, Cola wasted no time and swiftly released two albums along with several additional tracks, such as the 2023 hit “Mendicant.” Now, they are gearing up for the release of their third album, “Cost Of Living Adjustment,” abbreviated as C.O.L.A.
“Cost Of Living Adjustment” serves as the follow-up to 2024’s acclaimed “The Gloss,” marking Cola’s attempt to depart from what the band describes as “tasteful minimalism.” This creative shift is apparent in the album’s lead single and opening track, “Hedgesitting.” Featuring a funky and exuberant sound characterized by a shambolic breakbeat and prominent organ and guitar melodies, the track exudes a newfound energy. Despite the abstract nature of the lyrics, the song remains irresistibly catchy and direct in its delivery.
The accompanying music video for “Hedgesitting,” directed by Kristina Pedersen, heavily incorporates spliced-together vintage film footage, adding a visually appealing dimension to the auditory experience. Excitement surrounding the upcoming release of “Cost Of Living Adjustment” is palpable, with eager fans eagerly awaiting the full tracklist:
