Sheriff remains hopeful in Nancy Guthrie case despite lack of evidence she is deceased
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, and despite 18 days passing since she went missing, Sheriff Chris Nanos remains hopeful that she is still alive. In an interview with Fox10, Nanos emphasized that there is no concrete proof that she is not alive, which keeps the hope alive for her safe return.
Concerns have been mounting due to Guthrie’s heart condition and the daily medication she requires. Authorities have started using new technology, including a high-tech Bluetooth signal detector, to locate a signal from her pacemaker. Helicopters have been deployed to scan the surrounding areas in hopes of detecting a connection to the pacemaker, which lost its link to her phone at 2:28 a.m. on the night she vanished.
Jody Weis, a retired FBI agent, and former Chicago police superintendent, mentioned that while this technology is not a foolproof solution, it represents another effort to locate Guthrie. With 400 personnel currently involved in the search, Sheriff Nanos expressed his team’s determination to find Guthrie safe and unharmed. He urged whoever has information about her whereabouts to release her, emphasizing that it would be better in the long run for all parties involved.
Recent developments in the case, such as the discovery of unknown male DNA in gloves near Guthrie’s residence, have failed to yield any matches in the FBI’s database. The Sheriff’s Department disclosed that additional DNA evidence found at the residence is also undergoing analysis. Despite this setback, Nanos confirmed that all members of Guthrie’s family have been eliminated as suspects, and the family continues to cooperate with the investigation.
Savannah Guthrie, co-host of “Today,” shared a video expressing her enduring hope that her mother is still alive, two weeks after her disappearance. Investigators are also exploring multiple ransom notes sent to local news outlets and TMZ, as well as surveillance footage showing an armed, masked suspect at Guthrie’s front door on the night of her abduction. The FBI has increased the reward for information leading to Guthrie’s location or the arrest of those responsible for her disappearance to $100,000.
