Tofusmell Reveals First Album “All My Time” and Releases New Single “Dreams I’ve Had”
After the release of his 2023 EP Humor, Chen decided to move from Florida to Winnipeg. This change in scenery seems to have influenced his music dramatically. In a self-directed video for his new track “Dreams I’ve Had,” Chen explores the lyrical themes that inspired his upcoming record.
In discussing the track, Chen reveals his personal connection to the song’s content. “This song is about some dreams that I’ve had,” he explains. “It’s hard to say whether the events that play out while I sleep are relevant to some overarching narrative, whether my psychology is fully represented in the few memories I have once I wake up. I try to piece them together, giving meaning to odd details.” This introspective look at dreams and their significance offers a glimpse into the emotional depth of Chen’s music.
Chen’s debut LP, released on Sub Pop’s Hardly Art label, signifies a change in his creative process. At 24 years old, Chen has typically worked alone in his bedroom, writing, producing, and recording his music. However, for All My Time, he decided to collaborate with others. Six tracks on the album were co-produced and recorded with Keiran Placatka in Winnipeg, while four were created with Paul Larson in Los Angeles. This shift in approach has allowed Chen to explore a new sound influenced by early 2000s folk-rock, incorporating a live-band feel to his music.
The album artwork and tracklist have been revealed for All My Time. The tracklist features songs like “Cravings,” “(Me Tomorrow),” “Dreams I’ve Had,” “Pilot Fish,” “Voice Cracks,” “Overspender,” “Walk Me Back to Nothing,” “HONEY,” “Force the Sun West!,” “Luck,” “Rock Collector,” and “Jacksonnnn.” Each track promises to offer a unique perspective on Chen’s musical style and thematic explorations.
With his upcoming album, Chen continues to push the boundaries of his artistry, exploring new sounds and collaborating with others to bring his vision to life. The shift in his creative process and the introspective themes in his music suggest that All My Time will be a significant release for the young artist.
