New Plymouth festival to feature top-charting performers

An upcoming music festival in Plymouth is set to showcase some of the top indie rock acts in the UK, with chart-topping bands headlining the event. The Sound Factory Festival, taking place at The Depo on July 10 and 11, promises to be the largest indoor indie rock festival the city has ever seen.

The festival will kick off on Friday night with a headline performance by Kyle Falconer, former frontman of The View, who earned a Mercury nomination for his music. He will be joined by other acts such as The Bracknall, Colour TV, The Slates, and The Rhodes on the main stage. Additionally, the Sound Magazine stage will feature up-and-coming bands like Die Twice, Boss Cass, Roman, and the Ragdolls.

The second night of the festival will see the mod group The Molotovs take the stage as headliners. The trio, consisting of Mathew and Issey Cartlidge along with drummer Will “Ice” Fooks, recently reached number one on the UK album download chart with their latest release, “Wasted on Youth.” Joining them on Saturday will be The Velvet Hands, Tom A Smith, Lock-In, Eighty Eight Miles, and Haytor, among others.

The festival will also feature a BBC Introducing stage showcasing emerging talents such as Tom Hannigan, Sandshifter, and Essy Sparrow. Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy sets from a variety of artists across multiple stages, including Martha Fay, Nothing Rhymes With Orange, The Kabins, Halfcut, Rattrap, Andy Quick, Kate Hall, Cat Rose, and Kitty Crocker.

Organizers of the event, Rock ‘n’ Roll promoters Sound Factory and This Feeling, are thrilled to bring a mix of established guitar bands and emerging talents to Plymouth. The festival aims to showcase the diverse musical talent in the area, including students from Sound Factory Schools, who will have the opportunity to perform during the daytime on July 10.

The venue owner, Ryan Platts, expressed his excitement about hosting such a significant event at The Depo, emphasizing how it will contribute to the cultural scene in Plymouth. The previous year’s success has set high expectations for this year’s festival, with a lineup that promises excitement and energy.

With a mix of established acts and rising stars, the Sound Factory Festival is set to be a highlight for fans of indie rock, pop, and alternative music. From chart-topping headliners to new and emerging talent, the festival offers something for everyone who appreciates good music and a vibrant live music scene.
