In the world of death metal, Vomitory stands as a formidable force. Established in 1989, this Swedish band has released eight full-length albums between 1996 and 2011, shaping the genre with their extreme sound before taking a break in 2013. However, silence didn’t last long for Vomitory. A resurgence in 2019 to celebrate their 30th anniversary reignited their passion for music, leading to the release of their crushing comeback album, “All Heads Are Gonna Roll” in 2023.

Now, a mere three years later, Vomitory is back with their latest offering, “In Death Throes,” set to drop on April 10 through Metal Blade Records. If their previous record signaled their triumphant return, “In Death Throes” showcases a band that is sharpening and refining their sound. Drummer Tobias Gustafsson describes the new material as an intensified version of their last album, with an added edge of aggression.

“In Death Throes” seamlessly continues the journey Vomitory embarked on with “All Heads Are Gonna Roll,” but with an increased ferocity. New guitarist Christian Fredriksson has seamlessly integrated into the band, even contributing music to four tracks on the album. These additions add a touch of diversity to their sound without straying too far from their established formula.

The band chose to record drums and vocals at Leon Music Studios in Karlstad with producer Rikard Lofgren, a familiar collaborator responsible for some of the band’s earlier acclaimed works. Guitars and bass were laid down at Goff Studios, also in Karlstad, with Fredriksson taking charge behind the mixing board. For mixing and mastering, Vomitory once again enlisted Lawrence Mackrory at Rorysound Studios in Uppsala, known for his work with bands like Paradise Lost and Bloodbath, who delivered a production that hits hard while allowing the riffs to breathe.

Visually, the band stayed true to their established aesthetic, with Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design providing the artwork for “In Death Throes.” Nakos has worked with notable bands like Evergrey and Suffocation in the past. The layout for the album was designed by Seiya Ogino of Ogino Design.

In anticipation of the album’s release, Vomitory recently dropped the blistering single “For Gore And Country.” The track is a relentless onslaught of grind, D-beat chaos, and infectious breakdowns – a headbanging experience from start to finish. Drummer Gustafsson describes it as a representation of the band’s dedication to their craft and the genre.

With “In Death Throes” on the horizon, Vomitory continues to solidify their position as pioneers in the realm of death metal. Their unwavering commitment to their sound and their ability to evolve within the genre ensures that fans can expect nothing short of a brutal and captivating listening experience when the album drops on April 10.
