Juliana Hatfield collaborates on album with her contractor
Last year saw Tobias Jesso Jr. collaborating on an album with his former gardener, and now, Juliana Hatfield is surprising fans with a record she created with her contractor. Titled Bets, this new album follows closely on the heels of her December release, Lightning Might Strike. Taking to Instagram, the Western Mass alt-rock icon excitedly announced this project, stating that before crafting her last album, she worked on a collection of 11 songs with her contractor, Eric Payne. Payne, who also excels in carpentry and visual arts, was responsible for the music on Bets, playing all instruments except for a couple of guitar tracks contributed by Hatfield herself. The songstress penned the lyrics and melodies, and interestingly, a few of the tracks from this joint effort ended up being reimagined for Lightning Might Strike. The album can be found on Bandcamp under the title julianahatfieldandericpayne.bandcamp.com, and it’s an intriguing mix of original music, with the exception of “Sugartown,” which was entirely composed by Lee Hazlewood.
