Band Mixes 90s Alternative Rock and Shoegaze on New Album “Below”
Glom, also known as Sean Dunnevant, has revealed plans for a spring North American tour in support of his latest album, Below. The tour will commence on Tuesday, May 13 in Nashville and come to a close on Friday, June 6 in Washington, D.C., with a notable stop at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn on Wednesday, June 4. Before the headline shows, Glom will be the opening act for Dashboard Confessional on selected April dates, including Tuesday, April 15 at Empire Live in Albany.
The most recent addition to Below is the single “One Track Mind,” which joins previously released singles like “Late To The Party,” “Mirror,” “Steel,” and “Window.” Below marks Glom’s first solo music release following his 2020 album, Merit. The unique sound of Below has been described by KCRW as a fusion of ’90s alternative rock with shoegaze influences.
The album delves into heavy distortion and dreamy pop landscapes, blending current and classic sounds seamlessly. Drawing inspiration from ’90s alternative rock bands like Third Eye Blind, as well as grunge-influenced artists like Narrow Head and emo-adjacent groups such as Dazy, Below offers a rich musical tapestry.
Much of Below was crafted around Dunnevant’s 30th birthday, a significant milestone in his life and career. This period of reflection led to introspective tracks like “My Body Loves Me,” which explores the changes that come with aging, and “Window,” which touches on themes of missed connections and the challenges of reconciliation. Among the standout lyrics on the album is the poignant line, “Call me when you’ve settled, let’s catch up and make a plan, I’ll pretend you understand and want to know.”
Reflecting on the album, Dunnevant revealed that during its creation, he was unsure about his future and felt lost. However, taking a chance on the record allowed him to achieve the desired sound he had envisioned. This transformative journey is reflected in the powerful themes and emotive lyrics present in Below.
Tickets for Glom’s tour dates are now available, providing fans with an opportunity to experience his captivating sound live. With a unique blend of ’90s nostalgia and contemporary sensibilities, Glom’s music promises an unforgettable musical journey for audiences across North America.
