Anamanaguchi releases new OST ‘Scott Pilgrim EX’ for new video game set in Toronto
Anamanaguchi has recently dropped the official soundtrack for the much-anticipated video game, Scott Pilgrim EX. This new game, a collaboration between Tribute Games, Scott Pilgrim graphic novel creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, and pixel artist Paul Robertson, is set to be released today. All 71 tracks from the OST are now available for streaming, thanks to Polyvinyl Records. Additionally, physical editions of the soundtrack will hit the shelves on August 7.
The band, Anamanaguchi, is no stranger to the world of Scott Pilgrim, having contributed to Netflix’s animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off and Ubisoft’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game in the past. In the latest collaboration, the band shared their excitement at revisiting the Scott Pilgrim universe, although this time around, the setting in Toronto is vastly different from where they left off. They invite gamers to enjoy the experience with three friends either in person or through voice chat, emphasizing the essence of video games.
The Scott Pilgrim EX soundtrack is carefully structured into four sections representing different facets of the game. Each section – Toronto symbolizing the normal world, alongside Vegans, Demons, and Robots as the supernatural threats – offers a unique musical experience. The band’s latest single “United by Fate” sets the tone for the Robots section. Anamanaguchi expressed their growth since recording the original 2010 OST in their basement, citing the diverse styles of music they had to incorporate, such as thrash, surf, reggae, emo, and boss music to enrich the gaming experience. They found working with Casey di Iorio from Valve Studios exciting due to the flexibility it offered in altering recording methods to adapt to the various musical styles required for the game.
Tribute Games provides a sneak peek into the storyline of Scott Pilgrim EX, portraying a thrilling adventure set in Toronto in the year 20XX. The game kicks off when Scott Pilgrim’s bandmates are abducted by mysterious forces, propelling players into an action-packed journey through the bustling streets of Toronto. Gamers are tasked with battling three new enemy factions across different dimensions and periods while engaging in creative combat, character upgrades, and unlocking hidden secrets.
