Illenium creates ‘Odyssey’ world for Sphere residency
Illenium’s ‘Odyssey’ production was far from ordinary, conceived with his residency at Sphere in mind. Each element of the album was crafted with the intention of bringing it to life on the most cutting-edge musical platform globally. “Everything is a completely fresh experience. Everything we’re doing hasn’t been seen before,” Illenium says. “I love creating a world around every project. I’m a huge movie enthusiast, I love video games, and I thrive on immersing myself in new experiences. We depicted a rough outline initially, later evolving into a beautiful journey focusing on the balance between light and dark, finding solace in suffering—themes that deeply resonate with me and are reflected in my music.”
With 19 tracks, ‘Odyssey’ is a transcendent expedition amplified by Illenium’s ethereal melodies, spine-tingling choruses, and edgy, synth-heavy tones. Songs like “Forever” crescendo to a lush harmony accentuated by pulsating basslines and drums, while tracks such as “War” break through the dream-like ambiance with sharp, punk-infused precision.
Through Illenium’s eyes, thousands will not only hear but see EDM through an immersive, cinematic lens, enhanced by Woodblock, a Berlin-based animation studio’s captivating visuals. This isn’t Illenium’s first significant moment on the Las Vegas Strip, either. In 2021, he made history as the inaugural artist to perform at Allegiant Stadium. The performance of his album trilogy—comprising ‘Ashes,’ ‘Awake,’ and ‘Ascend’—served as a pivotal moment in his illustrious career.
Currently, Illenium’s nine-show residency at Sphere is underway until April 4, marking yet another landmark in his musical journey.
Reflecting on his initial impressions of Sphere before its completion, Illenium recalls, “When I first visited the venue, Allegiant Stadium was at the forefront of my mind as we were wrapping up the trilogy tour. My focus was limited back then. However, I was certain of the limitless possibilities Sphere had to offer.”
