Hard-Fi’s first new album in 15 years announced: “Sweating Someone Else’s Fever”
British band Hard-Fi experienced significant success in the 2000s with their initial two albums reaching the number one spot in the UK. After taking a break in 2014, they made a comeback in 2023 by touring the UK. Subsequently, in 2024, they released an EP titled Don’t Go Making Plans. Now, they have announced the upcoming release of their first new album since 2011’s Killer Sounds, featuring a somewhat controversial album cover that resembles the infamous mosquito blunder made by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The band’s latest LP, titled Sweating Someone Else’s Fever, was co-produced by frontman Richard Archer and Wolsey White. This album features collaborations with Colombian MC Mike Kalle and stage actress Krysten Cummings. The lead single, “They Ain’t Your Friends,” is a fusion of disco and rock that delves into the theme of individuals in the music industry who are merely hangers-on. Archer reflects on the changing dynamics of the music industry, noting, “At the beginning, you could get out there, and it was a meritocracy, whereas now it’s basically back to patronage where you have to suck up to the guy who’ll give you some money to write a waltz for his ball.” This sentiment may shed light on the inclusion of the mosquito on the album cover, symbolizing unwanted and unnecessary elements.
The Sweating Someone Else’s Fever tracklist includes a diverse range of tracks, showcasing the band’s versatility and creativity. From the energetic “They Ain’t Your Friends” to the melodic “You Rule My Heart (When The Summer’s Gone)” and the thought-provoking “A Rose Electric” featuring Krysten Cummings, the album promises a captivating listening experience. With tracks like “Humpback Whale” and “Looking For Fun,” Hard-Fi demonstrates their ability to blend different musical styles effortlessly. The album also includes remastered versions of fan-favorites like “Always And Forever” and “Don’t Go Making Plans.”
Sweating Someone Else’s Fever is scheduled for release on June 19th on V2, marking a significant moment for Hard-Fi fans eagerly awaiting new music from the band. With the unique blend of influences and the band’s signature sound, this album is sure to leave a lasting impression on listeners. Get ready to embark on a musical journey with Hard-Fi as they continue to push boundaries and redefine their artistic expression through Sweating Someone Else’s Fever.
