The Bobby Lees to release new album titled New Self on Epitaph Records
In October, The Bobby Lees announced their move to Epitaph Records, coinciding with the release of their single “Napoleon”. Today, they unveil the title track “New Self” to further establish their new phase. Lead singer and guitarist Sam Quartin shares that the song is like a personal diary entry, a revealing glimpse into their inner thoughts. Despite feeling slightly uneasy about baring their soul in this way, they decided to take the leap and share it with their audience.
The inspiration behind “New Self” came from an unexpected source – late 90s Hip Hop and Nu Metal. Quartin recalls that the band was immersed in that sound when they started crafting the track, and they made it clear to producer Dave Sardy that they wanted to capture that vibe. The result is a blend of nostalgia and modernity, a sound that reflects their eclectic influences and creative vision.
After facing a period of uncertainty and burnout, The Bobby Lees made a triumphant return to the music scene with the help of actor Jason Momoa, who generously offered to fund their album. Quartin expresses gratitude for this unexpected gift, which lifted the financial burden and allowed them to focus on their art without distractions. With a newfound sense of purpose and support, the band set out to create “New Self”.
The process of writing and recording the songs for “New Self” was a collaborative effort between The Bobby Lees, Dave Sardy, and Alex Pasco in Los Angeles. The result is an album that showcases their growth and evolution as artists, capturing a sense of confidence and connection that was missing during their hiatus. The tracks on the album reflect a wide range of emotions and experiences, from introspective ballads to high-energy anthems.
“New Self” is a bold and ambitious statement from The Bobby Lees, signaling a new chapter in their musical journey. With tracks like “Give”, “The End”, and “Red Hot”, they push boundaries and explore new sonic territories while staying true to their rock roots. The album captures the raw energy and passion of the band, inviting listeners to join them on this exhilarating ride.
