Omnivore Recordings has unveiled a previously unreleased rendition of Lowell George’s iconic song “Willin’,” performed by the dynamic duo of Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris, featuring the talented Inara George. This track is part of the Lowell George Tribute Album, Rock And Roll Doctor, a special collector’s edition available on vinyl for the first time on April 18, 2026, coinciding with Record Store Day, with a CD and digital release following on April 24, 2026.
This exclusive collector’s album showcases 15 exceptional live performances from legendary artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Little Feat, and Randy Newman, honoring a singular talent often overlooked in the annals of Rock ‘n’ Roll history.
Inara George, Lowell’s daughter, reflects on the significance of contributing to this album, reminiscing about the profound experience of recording “Trouble” with Van Dyke Parks and Ry Cooder, both close friends of her late father. Singing alongside luminaries like Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson feels like a poignant tribute to her father’s enduring musical legacy and a fitting conclusion to his vast body of work.
Lowell George, a versatile artist known for his prowess as a writer, guitarist, singer, and producer, left an indelible mark on diverse genres like Rock, R&B, Country, Blues, and West Coast Jazz. Hailing from Hollywood, California, George’s musical journey began with a fortuitous encounter with Frank Zappa, leading to his role in The Mothers of Invention. Subsequently, he co-founded Little Feat in 1969, supported by Zappa’s endorsement.
George’s collaboration with exceptional musicians like keyboardist Bill Payne and drummer Richie Hayward elevated Little Feat to legendary status. Despite internal strains prompting the band’s dissolution in 1979, George pursued a successful solo career with the release of his first and only solo album, “Thanks I’ll Eat It Here,” before his untimely demise at the age of 34 during a concert tour.
