BYD recently introduced its innovative Flash Charging technology in the new Seal 07 EV model, which can recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes. The unveiling of the Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system took place during the company’s Disruptive Technology event. These revolutionary charging stations can supply an impressive 1,500 kW of power, allowing vehicles to charge from 10% to 97% in only 9 minutes. To reach 70% capacity, it takes a mere 5 minutes, making it comparable to refilling a gas tank.
In harsh conditions where the temperature drops to -20°F for a full day, the new battery technology can recharge from 20% to 97% within 12 minutes. BYD has designed the charging stations to mimic a traditional gas station layout to facilitate quick vehicle access and departure due to the rapid recharge times.
Initially, BYD plans to deploy 20,000 Flash Charging stations across China by the end of 2026. Moreover, the company revealed that 11 models, including the Seal 07 EV and Sealion 06, would come equipped with the upgraded Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging system. These models will be featured in various BYD sub-brands like Yangwang, Fang Cheng Bao, and Denza, alongside the Dynasty and Ocean lineups.
The Seal 07 EV, resembling the Toyota Camry in size, is available in two versions, priced between 169,900 yuan ($24,600) and 189,900 yuan ($27,500). It is powered by a 322-horsepower (240 kW) rear-mounted electric motor and a 69 kWh battery, providing an impressive CLTC range of up to 705 km (438 miles).
BYD showcased the Seal 07 EV in action with the Blade batteries and Flash Charging technology in an impactful video. This demonstration illustrated the vehicle’s rapid charging capability, going from 10% to 70% in under 5 minutes. Additionally, the Sealion 06 EV, an electric SUV comparable in size to a Tesla Model Y, was launched at the event. Available in four variants priced between 159,900 yuan ($23,200) and 179,900 yuan ($26,000), it offers a CLTC range of either 605 km (375 miles) or 710 km (441 miles) based on the selected trim option.
The developments by BYD in the electric vehicle segment highlight the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable transportation solutions. With the introduction of Flash Charging technology, BYD is set to revolutionize the EV charging experience and accelerate the adoption of electric mobility worldwide.
