Veteran metalcore group As I Lay Dying is gearing up to hit the studio for their ninth album after marking two decades as a band and embarking on a 20th-anniversary tour in support of Shadows Are Security.

Fronted by the controversial figure Tim Lambesis, the band is presently on a string of shows in Russia, culminating in a final concert in Israel. For those keeping tabs on the latest happenings in the metal world in 2026, this is undoubtedly a significant development.

Bassist and vocalist Chris Clancy revealed that the band has already laid the groundwork for the upcoming record. According to Clancy, they have an abundance of songs prepared, engaging in the process of refining them while on the road during the current tour. Once they return home, the group plans to dive headfirst into the recording sessions.

Despite experiencing a major overhaul of band members in 2024 followed by a rebuilding process in 2025, the current lineup is leveraging their time on tour. Initially planning to commence recording in February, the band realized the benefit of developing ideas collectively during their travels, a decision that will make this tour especially busy.

Lambesis emphasized the band’s unwavering commitment to the new album. With their return from the current tour, the members have prioritized focusing entirely on the recording process, channeling all their efforts into this musical venture.

The group now comprises Lambesis, alongside guitarists Bill Hudson (NorthTale) and Don Vedda, bassist and vocalist Chris Clancy (Mutiny Within), and drummer Tim Yeung (ex-Morbid Angel). One point of interest for many might be whether the music market still resonates with As I Lay Dying’s music in light of the band’s tumultuous history, revolving primarily around Lambesis.

The upcoming album marks a new chapter for As I Lay Dying and signifies a crucial moment in their ongoing journey through the metal scene. With conviction and determination, the band pushes forward, eager to share their latest creation with fans old and new.
