Debut album “Book of Churches” released by Gravity / Capitol Records
Book of Churches has recently dropped its debut album, a solo project from Felix Mackenzie-Barrow, co-vocalist, and guitarist of alt-country band Divorce. Released via Gravity / Capitol Records, the album was born out of a deeply personal and raw creative process. Mackenzie-Barrow, while on the road with Divorce, found solace in moments of isolation, crafting songs that explored themes of lost love, grief, and anger.
The album took shape with lead single ‘Song By A Stranger,’ which Mackenzie-Barrow describes as the blueprint for the entire record. Each song was written in a single day, recorded the next, and left unaltered until mixing by Richie Kennedy (Interpol, The Last Dinner Party). Drawing inspiration from folk singer-songwriters like Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, ‘Book of Churches’ exudes a timeless minimalism and emotional depth.
Accompanying the album release is a video for the track ‘All The Good Things,’ a poignant reflection on memories following a breakup. Mackenzie-Barrow explains that the song was recorded and mixed in just a few hours, capturing the essence of finding peace amidst loss. Reflecting on the album as a whole, he likens it to a travelogue, a series of songs that serve as a dialogue with the past and a search for connection and meaning.
