Top rock bands unite for charity album ‘Help (2)’
Thirty years later, War Child, the organization that aids children affected by conflict globally, decided to bring back the spirit of unity that characterized the Help album. Titled Help (2), the album was recorded in Fall 2025 and hit the shelves on March 6, featuring an array of today’s leading independent rock acts. From Arctic Monkeys to Fontaines DC, Big Thief, Depeche Mode, Pulp, Beth Gibbons, Arlo Parks, Olivia Rodrigo, Wet Leg, and Beabadoobee, the lineup was a stellar selection of 23 tracks including many collaborative efforts.
The mastermind behind this musical collaboration was producer James Ford, entrusted by the British charity for the project. Ford’s established reputation and network, having worked on significant albums for Arctic Monkeys, Fontaines DC, Pulp, Gorillaz, and Depeche Mode, made it effortless to recruit these indie rock stars. Reflecting on the coordination of this star-studded album, Ford expressed gratitude for the overwhelming positivity and enthusiasm that reverberated from the artists. Many musicians went as far as suggesting covers or original songs, showcasing their eagerness to be part of this collective effort for an altruistic cause.
Back in 1995, when the original Help album was recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, British rock icons like Massive Attack, Portishead, Oasis, and Blur lent their talents to contribute to the cause during the Bosnian War, raising £1.2 million, which, in today’s currency, equates to €1.4 million. Fast forward three decades, and the spirit of unity and support for vulnerable children in conflict zones remains at the forefront of War Child’s mission through Help (2).
The collective nature of this album not only brings together a diverse array of musicians but also highlights the power of music in fostering positive change and supporting those in need. The 23 tracks on Help (2) serve as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the music community to make a difference and provide aid to children affected by war.
