Video captured US Tomahawk missile striking Iranian Naval Base close to school
A recently released video showing a missile striking a compound near an Iranian elementary school has raised suspicions that the U.S. may have been behind the Feb. 28 attack that resulted in the deaths of over 160 individuals. The footage, shared by Iran’s semiofficial Mehr News agency, depicts missiles hitting a building near a Revolutionary Guard base in Minab, Iran, close to an elementary school, causing a large cloud of smoke to billow into the sky.
Upon analyzing the video, experts have noted that the munition used in the attack bears similarities to a U.S. weapon. Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), highlighted that the munition’s visual characteristics align with those of a U.S. Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM). He pointed out the specific features, such as the cruciform shape with wings centrally mounted and a tailkit at the back, that match those of a TLAM. Additionally, the footage was taken approximately 250 meters from the expected impact site, indicating that the missile must be substantial, eliminating other U.S. munitions with similar visual traits like the GBU-69B from consideration.
Images released by the U.S. Central Command depicted the USS Spruance, part of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group, launching a Tomahawk missile on Feb. 28 in support of Operation Epic Fury. Furthermore, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed in a recent news conference that the initial shots fired at sea were Tomahawk missiles deployed by the United States Navy. However, when questioned aboard Air Force One about the U.S.’s involvement, President Donald Trump denied any responsibility, instead attributing the attack to Iran, labeling their munitions as “very inaccurate.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth added to the conversation by mentioning that the U.S. is conducting an investigation into the incident, emphasizing that only Iran has a history of intentionally targeting civilians.
