The video, revealed by Iran’s semiofficial Mehr News agency, captures missiles targeting a building adjacent to a Revolutionary Guard base in Minab, Iran, close to an elementary school, leading to a massive plume of smoke.
Upon analyzing the footage, experts have noted that the munition used in the attack bears a resemblance to a U.S. Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM). Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), highlighted that the visual characteristics of the munition, including its cruciform shape with centrally mounted wings and a tail kit, align with those of a TLAM. Furthermore, the proximity of the video to the estimated impact point, approximately 250 meters away, suggests that the weapon utilized was substantial in size, thereby ruling out other similar-looking munitions from the U.S. arsenal like the GBU-69B.
Previously, the U.S. Central Command had released images of the USS Spruance, a vessel from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group, firing a Tomahawk missile on the same day as the attack in support of Operation Epic Fury. During a press conference, Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, confirmed that the initial missiles launched at sea were Tomahawks deployed by the U.S. Navy. Despite these revelations, President Donald Trump, speaking aboard Air Force One, denied U.S. involvement and instead attributed the attack to Iran, emphasizing that Iran lacks precision with its munitions.
