Feeling Anxious: Worry Club Tour Arrives in Albany
On Monday, March 9th, fans gathered at Empire Underground to witness Worry Club on their “I’m Freaking Out” tour, alongside supporting acts Bugsy and Wakelee. Despite it being a Monday night, the crowd’s energy mirrored that of a lively Friday night.
Bugsy, hailing from Minneapolis, kicked off the evening with their indie-pop originals that delved into emotional themes. Prior to performing their song “hard to breathe,” lead singer Emily Schoonover made a connection with the audience by dedicating the song to lesbians, eliciting cheers throughout the venue. Additionally, Bugsy had informational resources available at their merch stand regarding individual rights against ICE and community support.
Wakelee, originating from Brooklyn, followed with their catalog of indie-rock tracks, even debuting a new song for the Albany audience. Between performances, the crowd was treated to insights into their recording process for their EP “Doghouse” and teasers about a potential upcoming record slated for later in the year.
As anticipation built and the lights dimmed, Worry Club took the stage to a roaring crowd. Established in 2020 by Chase Walsh at the onset of the pandemic, the Chicago-based band is now on a U.S. tour to celebrate the release of their debut studio album, “I’m Freaking Out.”
Frontman Chase took charge of the audience with his energetic dance moves and even had everyone joining in, symbolizing a sense of unity amid the chaos of the world. Throughout their set, the energy never waned, with Chase engaging the crowd by playfully mentioning the preferences of their drummer and encouraging some lively participation from the Albany attendees.
Worry Club illuminated Albany on a Monday night, uplifted spirits before the workday ahead for many. Before wrapping up the evening with hits like “Come and Get It” and “Too Dumb To Die,” Chase expressed his admiration for the city, asserting, “I mess with your city, it’s beautiful.”
In essence, Worry Club’s “I’m Freaking Out” tour captivated the Albany crowd, offering an electrifying performance that transcended the typical Monday night atmosphere and left concert-goers with a lasting impression of the band’s infectious energy and passion for music.
