The rock ‘n’ roll history books recently revisited a long-forgotten incident involving Sebastian Bach, the former frontman of Skid Row, and renowned Hollywood actor Brad Pitt. Bach came forward with a public apology after Christina Applegate, celebrated for her roles in various films and shows, including “Dead to Me,” brought up the incident in her candid memoir titled “You with the Sad Eyes.” This memoir, released on March 3, delves into Applegate’s life under the intense spotlight.

In his comments to Billboard, Bach expressed regret for any hurt caused to Applegate and others by his actions during the late 1980s. He was evidently taken aback by the detailed reemergence of the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards incident. According to Bach, being a young, single musician on tour exposed him to a whirlwind of rock ‘n’ roll and meeting numerous people. Reflecting on the past, he acknowledged the roller coaster-like nature of those experiences and extended an apology to anyone he might have inadvertently harmed.

Applegate recounted the 1989 awards show in her memoir, revealing that despite attending the event with Pitt, she found herself irresistibly drawn to Bach, describing him as a “long-haired hunk.” Seizing a rare surge of confidence, the 17-year-old Applegate impulsively departed with the Skid Row artist, leaving a perplexed Pitt to escort her mother home. As the night unfolded, Pitt found himself in a precarious situation at a gas station while driving Applegate’s mother, leading to years of silence between Pitt and Applegate. Although they eventually reconciled as adults, Applegate humorously noted in her book the contrast between Pitt’s global icon status and Bach’s enduring long hair.

Overall, Bach’s apology signifies a moment of reflection on youthful indiscretions and their unintended consequences, demonstrating a growth in maturity and empathy over the years. The incident, steeped in rock ‘n’ roll lore from the late 1980s, resurfaced as a candid reminder of the complexities and challenges that come with navigating fame, relationships, and personal growth under public scrutiny.
