Popular Wisconsin blues artist debuts latest album, ‘Life Lines’
Songwriter Joyann Parker got her start in the music world at the tender age of 2 when she began singing at her church in Mellen, a small community located in Wisconsin’s Northwoods region.
Growing up, Parker was heavily influenced by the harmonies of southern gospel music she listened to with her parents, as well as her uncle’s introduction to blues and rock-and-roll. Her growing interest in music led her to take up the piano. However, it wasn’t until her mid-30s that Parker ventured into writing and performing her own songs. Since then, she has blossomed into a well-respected blues and Americana artist, with her album “Roots” making a notable appearance on the Billboard blues charts at number 10 upon its release in 2023.
Her latest endeavor, the upcoming album “Life Lines,” slated for release this month, aims to explore the stories and wisdom that come with age. In celebration of her new album, Parker is scheduled to perform at a Northwoods album release show in Hayward on May 15.
In an interview with WPR’s “Wisconsin Today,” Parker reflected on her upcoming album and her remarkable journey in the music industry.
Kate Archer Kent inquired about Parker’s assertion that growing older is a gift, asking her about the life lessons and insights that have influenced the creation of her new record.
Parker shared that the past five years have been a time of immense personal growth and healing for her. This healing process enabled her to delve deeper into discovering her true identity, values, and purpose. She expressed contentment at finally embracing her authentic self and the realization of her musical calling. Parker credits her experience in guiding teenagers, including her own children, with helping her revisit and strengthen aspects of herself that hadn’t been fully explored during her own teenage years. This personal journey has been encapsulated in a song she dedicated to her children.
For Parker, the theme of “Life Lines” resonates from the rich tapestry of experiences, insights, and self-discovery she has accumulated over the years. Through her music, she crafts a narrative that encapsulates the beauty and complexity of growing older and cherishing the wisdom, memories, and growth that come with each passing year. Joyann Parker’s forthcoming album promises to be a soul-stirring, introspective journey that reflects her passion for storytelling and the power of music to connect and resonate with listeners on a profound level.
