Fruit Bats set to release new album titled The Landfill

Fruit Bats, led by Eric D. Johnson, are back with their latest album, The Landfill, following the success of their 2025 solo release Baby Man. This new album is a departure from Johnson’s previous work, as it delves into themes of memory, consequence, and possibility, offering a vibrant and full-band experience to listeners. The title track and lead single, “The Landfill,” is accompanied by a music video directed by Adam Willis.

Johnson shared some insight into the making of the video, mentioning his long-standing partnership with Willis and their penchant for creating quirky and thought-provoking visuals. The initial concept for the video was inspired by Close Encounters of the Third Kind, focusing on a man at a crossroads haunted by a mysterious shape. As the ideas evolved, they settled on the notion that Johnson leads a double life as an unknown art star in Europe, a playful reference to Fruit Bats’ journey as a relatively obscure band in certain regions. Despite the whimsical nature of the concepts, the video still manages to convey the song’s themes of memory, legacy, and the search for the right path.

The Landfill sees Johnson collaborating with his touring band, which includes bassist David Dawda, guitarist Josh Mease, keyboardist Frank LoCrasto, and drummer Kosta Galanopoulos. Together, they bring a dynamic and live sound to the collection of tracks, enhancing the overall listening experience for fans. The album artwork and tracklist, featuring songs like “The Saddest Part of the Song,” “All Wounds,” and “Hummingbird Sage,” showcase the depth and range of Fruit Bats’ musical offerings.

With The Landfill, Fruit Bats continue to push boundaries and explore new territories in their sound, creating an album that is both introspective and engaging. Johnson’s introspective lyrics and the band’s collaborative energy shine through in each track, making this album a standout in the Fruit Bats catalogue. As fans eagerly await the release of The Landfill, it’s clear that Fruit Bats are poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene with their unique blend of indie folk and rock sensibilities.
