Black Spikes, a Lithuanian blackened prog metal band, has recently inked a deal with Napalm Records for the release of their upcoming conceptual album, “Ydos.” With “Aurea” as the lead single, the album is set to hit the shelves on August 28th under the Napalm Records label. In a surprising turn of events, the band revealed that they found themselves discussing what it would take to get signed by Napalm Records just as they were releasing a single called “Imperatore.” Hailing from a small country with a limited metal scene and singing in their native language, they doubted their chances and didn’t bother pursuing it. Nevertheless, a week later, Napalm Records reached out to them, initially causing disbelief as they thought it was a scam. The band expressed their excitement about the collaboration and are eager to see where this partnership will lead them.

The band shed some light on the album’s concept, stating that “Ydos” is a dark fairytale revolving around human vices. This central theme guided their songwriting process, with each vice personified and given its own narrative. Many of the songs from the album are set to be accompanied by music videos that visually depict these vices coming to life. Crafting a conceptual album was a new experience for the band, and they thoroughly enjoyed translating their creative vision into music.

Speaking specifically about the lead single, “Aurea,” the band described it as representing the vice of pride. The song explores how pride manifests itself as we age, from youth and beauty to the inevitability of aging and the fading of physical beauty. The music video for “Aurea” was filmed at the Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology, providing a visually captivating backdrop to the song’s narrative.

In addition to their upcoming album release, Black Spikes is gearing up to hit the road alongside Butcher Babies and Infected Rain for a European and UK co-headlining tour. This extensive tour will see them perform across various cities, including London, Paris, Milan, and Helsinki, treating fans to an electrifying live showcase of their music. With a new label deal in place and exciting projects on the horizon, Black Spikes is poised to make a significant impact in the metal scene and captivate audiences worldwide with their unique blend of blackened prog metal.
