New video reveals staff and theme songs for “You Anime” behind supermarket smoking spot
The recent stage presentation at the AnimeJapan 2026 event unveiled exciting details about the upcoming television anime adaptation of Jinushi’s manga, “Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You.” During the event, the main promotional video, key visual, staff, theme song artists, and limited advance streaming on ABEMA in Japan in June were announced.
Directed by Tadato Suzuki and episode director Aoi Mori at Asahi Production, this anime promises to captivate audiences with its unique storyline. Mio Inoue, known for their work on “A Mangaka’s Weirdly Wonderful Workplace” and “My Awkward Senpai,” will be in charge of the series scripts. Character design will be handled by Yasuka Ōtaki, and the music will be composed by Shin Kōno and Sayaka Aoki.
Fans can look forward to ZUTOMAYO performing the opening theme song, while musician imase will enchant viewers with the ending theme song “Fiction.” The anime is set to have a limited advance streaming on the ABEMA service in June, followed by its premiere on TBS and 27 other channels in July. Viewers can catch the show every Thursday at 11:56 p.m. JST.
The story follows the life of Sasaki, an overworked office worker seeking solace in the monotony of corporate life. The only bright spot in his day is a chance encounter with Yamada at the supermarket. One evening, after a long day, Sasaki misses Yamada’s shift, prompting him to search for a smoking area. To his surprise, he meets a mysterious girl named Tayama, who invites him to a secret smoking spot.
Introduced in March 2022 on X/Twitter, the manga quickly gained popularity and began serialization in Square Enix’s “Big Gangan” magazine in August 2022. The English version of the manga, published by Square Enix Manga & Books, has been well-received by international audiences. The series won eighth place in the 16th Manga Taisho awards in 2023, further solidifying its popularity.
