South Korea implemented a ban on putting food into landfills back in 2005, and at that time, only 2 percent of food waste was recycled. However, fast forward to today, and an impressive 95 percent of food waste is now recycled in the country. The citizens of South Korea who do not compost their food scraps can take them to a nearby area recycling station, where the waste is accurately weighed, logged, and they are subsequently billed monthly based on the quantity they dispose of. The collected food scraps are then repurposed into fertiliser or animal feed, while the methane and natural gases that are produced during the recycling process are utilized to create energy that powers the recycling facility.
Recently in Kilcullen, various events and achievements were celebrated. Over €8,000 was raised on Kilcullen Daffodil Day, while swimmers from Spout raised nearly €1,700 for the Kilcullen mural project. Additionally, the town mourned the passing of John Martin and celebrated the success of a local woman who won property and surveying awards. The Equinox gathering also provided a platform for the sun to perform, pleasing attendees.
