Paul Nixon evaluates a variety of recent music releases
Paul Nixon is known as “Mr. Music” in East Anglia, and he recently reviewed a variety of new music releases. One of the albums he reviewed was Robin Trower’s “Robin Trower Live!” released by Chrysalis. Robin Trower is a renowned guitarist known for his soulful blues and rock style. His career began with The Paramounts in the ‘60s, and later he joined Procol Harum before venturing out on his own.
After leaving Procol Harum, Trower formed the Robin Trower Band and released his album “Twice Removed From Yesterday” in 1973. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of his live album, it has been remixed from the original multi-tracks and newly sequenced into its original 12-track running order by engineer Richard Whittaker. The two special editions released by Chrysalis include the expanded concert alongside a remastered version of the original LP.
The vinyl version of the album features the new mix across two LPs, and liner notes by David Sinclair include new quotes from Trower and drummer Bill Lordan, as well as unseen photos from the concert. This 1975 Stockholm performance is a must-have for fans and collectors alike as it offers a unique insight into Trower’s live performance.
Another album that Nixon reviewed was The Eagles’ “One Of These Nights Deluxe Edition” released by Rhino. This album holds a special place in Nixon’s heart as it has been in his top 20 albums since its release in 1975. The album was a significant milestone for the band and even won a Grammy. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, the album has been completely overhauled and expanded for this deluxe edition.
The “One Of These Nights Deluxe Edition” is available as a 3CD/Blu-ray set featuring a new mix of the original album, an unreleased 16-song 1975 concert at Anaheim Stadium, and new Dolby Atmos and high-res stereo mixes. A 3LP version is also available, including the new album mix and the full concert recording. The unreleased live concert captures the band’s performance at the Sunshine Festival in Anaheim in 1975, showcasing their talent and energy on stage.
Overall, both albums offer fans and collectors a unique opportunity to experience the music of Robin Trower and The Eagles in a new light. These deluxe editions provide a fresh perspective on the original albums and offer fans a deeper insight into the music and performances of these iconic artists.
