John Waters, a legendary filmmaker, shared his thoughts on various topics on the eve of his 80th birthday, including hosting the Oscars and pitching Chris Rock and Will Smith to present together. He humorously mentioned that if he were the host of the Oscars, they would come out and show a movie titled “Sissy Boy Slap Party,” describing it as a hilarious underground film.

Reflecting on his lifelong dream, Waters noted that everyone, especially gay kids, has fantasized about winning an Oscar and giving an acceptance speech. He expressed a personal desire to be the host of the Oscars and highlighted his previous experience hosting the Spirit Awards as an audition for the role.

With over six decades of filmmaking under his belt, Waters’ career began with a silent short film titled “Hag in a Black Leather Jacket” in 1964, setting the stage for his signature style and unconventional approach to cinema. His debut feature, “Mondo Trasho,” premiered in 1969, marking the start of a creative partnership with drag queen icon Divine, who played a prominent role in many of Waters’ films.

In 1970, Waters embarked on a cross-country journey to Los Angeles from Provincetown, Massachusetts, for the premiere of “Multiple Maniacs,” a milestone in his career that solidified his presence in the film industry. Throughout his extensive filmography, Waters has challenged societal norms, championed queer narratives, and subverted mainstream conventions, earning a reputation as a trailblazer in independent cinema.

As he approaches his 80th birthday, Waters remains an influential figure in the entertainment industry, known for his unique artistic vision, irreverent humor, and boundary-pushing storytelling.
