Federal Frenzy Emphasizes New Initiatives for 2026
Federal Frenzy is set to take over downtown Youngstown on Saturday, showcasing an array of talent and activities organized by student volunteers from Youngstown State University’s Penguin Productions. A total of 20 acts will grace two outdoor and three indoor stages, providing a diverse selection of music for attendees to enjoy over a nine-hour span. Various events and performances are planned throughout the day on or near West Federal Street, making it a day packed with entertainment for all.
The highlight of the event will be the main stage performance by hip hop artist Armani White, known for his popular song “Billie Eilish” which has garnered over 453 million streams on Spotify. White’s collaboration with artists like A$AP Ferg and Denzel Curry has further solidified his presence in the music scene. While White takes the spotlight, most of the acts at Federal Frenzy are local or regional bands, with many being YSU students or alumni. The focus this year is on introducing fresh acts that haven’t graced the festival before, giving a platform to up and coming talents that deserve recognition.
In a landscape where newness dominates, drummer Dean Anshutz stands out as one of the few returning performers at Federal Frenzy. Anshutz, a member of Kid Mammoth, reflects on past experiences at the festival and how meaningful it is for him to be back on stage. Kid Mammoth, led by Kerry Henderson of The Floorwalkers, will present a blend of new and familiar sounds at their performance, incorporating their evolving musical style into the mix.
Beyond the music, Federal Frenzy offers a plethora of engaging activities to cater to a wide audience. Emphasizing community involvement, the event extends its reach to various local organizations, student groups, and departments from YSU, showcasing black history trivia, drum circles, craft stations, and more. Attendees can participate in unique experiences like skateboarding courtesy of the Youngstown Skatepark Association, explore the wonders of science at OH WOW! and even register to vote with the League of Women Voters.
Food and drink options at Federal Frenzy are carefully curated to support local businesses and offer a diverse culinary experience. Two breweries, Noble Creature and Birdfish, will take over Draught House with an assortment of beers, complemented by food trucks serving up delightful treats like pierogies and Greek donuts. With a focus on variety and inclusivity, organizers aim to make the event welcoming to all tastes and preferences.
Parking arrangements have been made convenient for attendees, with paid parking available at downtown lots and a shuttle service running between YSU’s Wick Avenue parking deck and the festival grounds. As Federal Frenzy gears up for the big day, anticipation is high for a spectacular showcase of music, arts, and community engagement in the heart of Youngstown.
