Jennie from BLACKPINK Makes History as First Female K-Pop Soloist with Multiple Billboard Rock Hits
The recognition and credit for hit songs on the Billboard charts can sometimes be a bit complicated. While most people are familiar with the main artist behind a track, the featured performers may not always receive the acknowledgment they deserve, despite playing a significant role in the song’s success. The extent to which they are credited often hinges on the popularity of a particular version of the song.
Take, for example, Tame Impala’s “Dracula,” which was originally released as part of Kevin Parker’s project and has swiftly become one of its biggest hits in the U.S. Following a remix featuring Jennie of Blackpink, the track received a substantial boost in popularity. Initially, Jennie was not credited on various Billboard charts, as her version was not the predominant one. However, this has since changed, and her name now appears alongside Tame Impala on all major listings, enabling her to achieve multiple milestones in the U.S.
“Dracula,” now officially recognized as a collaboration between Tame Impala and Jennie, has made its mark on 18 different Billboard rankings, as reported by Forbes. Such widespread availability is not an easy feat, as it requires success in sales, streaming, and appeal across various genres. The song has found success in pop, dance, and even rock, a genre where K-pop artists typically struggle to make an impact.
Jennie has broken barriers by becoming the first solo female K-pop artist to secure a place on multiple rock-focused charts on Billboard, including Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, Rock & Alternative Airplay, Rock Digital Song Sales, and Hot Alternative Songs. Her influence is particularly evident on the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, where “Dracula” has risen to the impressive position of No. 10. Not only is she the first female K-pop artist to achieve this milestone, but she is also the first soloist from the genre to break into the top 10 on that particular ranking. Previously, the collaboration between Coldplay and BTS, “My Universe,” peaked at the same position, making Jennie’s radio success even more remarkable.
Additionally, “Dracula” has secured top-five positions on both the Hot Alternative Songs and Rock Digital Song Sales charts, solidifying Jennie’s status as the first K-pop artist outside of BTS to reach such heights. While BTS and its members have previously charted in these categories, Jennie’s solo achievement is a significant milestone in its own right.
K-pop acts have started gaining more traction on the broader Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, where BTS continues to lead the way. Their collaboration with Coldplay on “My Universe” remains the only No. 1 by a K-pop act on that chart, maintaining the top spot for three weeks. While other artists have made fleeting appearances, such as Hyunjin of Stray Kids, who featured on a track with d4vd in 2025, Jennie’s impact and success are undeniably noteworthy.
