Person with Chainsaw Reveals First Album ‘Cannonball’: Listen to “Nosedive”
London-based punk band Man/Woman/Chainsaw originally formed when its members were just teenagers. After the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the group spent their time at home honing their musical skills, leading to their recognition as a Band To Watch by Stereogum in 2024. The band’s Eazy Peazy EP was produced by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, followed by the release of a few singles in the previous year. Their track “Only Girl,” which came out in November, quickly gained popularity and stood out as one of the top songs of the week. Now, the band is excited to unveil their debut album, Cannonball.
For their debut album, Cannonball, Man/Woman/Chainsaw worked with two renowned producers, Seth Evans and Margo Broom, who have collaborated with bands such as My New Band Believe and Big Joanie. The album’s lead track, “Only Girl,” sets the tone for the LP, which also features a new song titled “Nosedive.” Contrary to the band’s previous work, “Nosedive” showcases a more balanced and structured sound. Clocking in at over five minutes, the track is a melodic dance-rock piece that features enchanting violin melodies from Starwood and haunting synth accents.
The band’s keyboardist, Emmie-Mae Avery, takes on lead vocals for “Nosedive.” In a statement, she describes the track as a reflection on the desire for comfort and freedom simultaneously in a relationship, using the metaphor of an injured bird seeking shelter. The band transformed this concept into an upbeat, danceable tune that captures the feeling of picking oneself up and taking flight.
To complement the release of “Nosedive,” Man/Woman/Chainsaw collaborated with Charlie & Charlie to direct an accompanying music video. The visuals add depth and atmosphere to the song, enriching the overall experience for listeners. Along with the track’s release, the band has shared the full tracklist for Cannonball, which includes songs like “Canyons,” “Goddamn, Lizard Man!” and “Lighter.”
In addition to their upcoming album release, Man/Woman/Chainsaw has announced a series of tour dates across Europe. Fans can catch the band at various festivals and venues, including Rock Werchter in Belgium, the Latitude Festival in the UK, and the Canela Party in Spain. The tour will kick off in Berlin in May and conclude with a performance in London in October.
Cannonball, the highly anticipated debut album from Man/Woman/Chainsaw, is set to be released on August 7th via Fiction Records. With a blend of raw energy, captivating melodies, and introspective lyrics, the album promises to solidify the band’s position as a rising force in the punk rock scene.
Overall, Man/Woman/Chainsaw’s journey from teenage punk enthusiasts to accomplished musicians is a testament to their dedication and talent. As they gear up for the release of Cannonball and a busy tour schedule, their unique blend of punk ethos and melodic sensibility is sure to resonate with audiences worldwide.
