Punk benefit concert at Jammin’ Java on April 29, 2026
On April 29, Punk It Forward is hosting a benefit concert at Jammin’ Java, featuring four bands to support Survivors.org. Gigi Marie, Old Knife, and Shelley Star & The Galaxy, along with headliners Modern Natives, will take the stage for an evening filled with punk, rock, pop, and mutual aid.
Modern Natives, formed by Dezy in 2009 and later joined by Savannah in 2019, started their journey in Florida and traveled to Alaska and back, perfecting their sound while on the road. They have toured extensively, from one end of the United States to the other and across Canada, living out of an old camper with their pets. Currently based in New York’s Hudson Valley, Modern Natives deliver a unique genre-blending sound and electrifying live performances that captivate audiences.
Shelley Star & The Galaxy are adding a cosmic touch to Washington, DC’s music scene with their out-of-this-world lyrics, vibrant pop-rock tunes, and theatrical performances. Led by the enigmatic Shelley Star, the band draws inspiration from legendary artists like Lady Gaga, ABBA, and David Bowie, infusing their style with elements of drag culture to create a dynamic and visually striking musical experience.
Old Knife, a trio from DC, brings a distinctive post-hardcore sound influenced by a variety of musical styles. Comprised of Ella Gallogly, Maddie Franca, and VJ Hyde, Old Knife’s performances are a mix of intense energy and musicality, creating an artful and therapeutic atmosphere reminiscent of an opera punk production.
Gigi Marie, known as “DC’s favorite red head rock n roller,” is a dynamic performer and finalist for two Wammie Awards this year. With a unique blend of Garage-Glam-Punkette attitude, Gigi Marie is thrilled to take the stage at Jammin’ Java in support of Survivors.org, an organization providing critical resources and support to individuals recovering from sexual assault and domestic violence. As a survivor herself, Gigi founded Punk It Forward to raise awareness for important causes through music and the arts.
Survivors.org, which aims to empower survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, has recently lost funding and urgently requires support to continue its essential programs. To help the cause, $3 from every advance ticket sold for the benefit concert will be donated to the DC Migrant Mutual Aid Action Network.
