Knitting Factory Management Endorses Cumbia Punk Band Son Rompe Pera
Knitting Factory Management (KFM), the management division of Knitting Factory Entertainment (KFE), has agreed to co-manage Son Rompe Pera, a Mexican cumbia punk band, alongside their current manager Timothy “Timo” Bisig. Bisig expressed satisfaction with this new collaboration, mentioning Knitting Factory’s history of working with unconventional and unique artists similar to Son Rompe Pera. Hailing from the outskirts of Mexico City, the Gama brothers and their band Son Rompe Pera have challenged the traditional perception of marimba-centric music by infusing it with their punk aesthetic. Their electrifying performances, featuring the captivating marimba mosh pit, have created a sense of unity and catharsis among fans worldwide, reinforcing their reputation for delivering high-energy, progressive punk-infused cumbias.
Son Rompe Pera has released two acclaimed albums and performed on renowned stages internationally, showcasing their innovative approach to pushing the boundaries of their genre. They encapsulate the belief that traditions should be respected, subverted, and reinvented. Aaron Johnson, Knitting Factory Management’s VP of Artist Management & Business Development, commended Bisig’s invitation to witness Son Rompe Pera live and was thoroughly impressed by their captivating performance, describing them as one of the best live acts today.
The band is set to unveil new material at their upcoming U.S. shows in the spring and summer, followed by a series of international concerts in July. Their tour schedule includes various locations across the U.S., such as San Antonio, Austin, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, Philadelphia, Washington, Brooklyn, Northampton, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Ventura. They will also perform in Berlin, Barcelona, Wabern, and Nigata during their international run. Knitting Factory Management President Brian Long expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Timo and Son Rompe Pera, emphasizing the band’s daring reinterpretation of a traditional genre, reminiscent of the creative ethos shared by other Knitting Factory Management artists.
Other notable releases and achievements from the KFM lineup include the punk rock band Gogol Bordello’s latest album, José González’s fifth album, and jazz singer Laura Anglade’s award-winning record at the Juno Awards. Gogol Bordello recently launched their ninth studio album and are preparing for a European tour after wrapping up their North American leg, while José González is gearing up for a U.S. tour following the release of his latest album. Additionally, Laura Anglade was recognized for her exceptional vocal jazz album at the Juno Awards.
