Dharma Guns releases new album “Nightmares and Broken Dreams”
Dharma Guns, a Helsinki-based dandy punk band, has made a triumphant return with their incendiary second album, Nightmares and Broken Dreams, solidifying their claim as the kings of action rock. Released on April 24, 2026, this album offers a dark and feverish perspective on the world we live in today.
In their debut album, Ex-Generation Superstars, Dharma Guns explored themes related to generational gaps, firmly establishing their presence in the action rock genre. Nightmares and Broken Dreams shifts focus to the idea of the legacy we leave behind for future generations.
The band’s love for rock ‘n’ roll is ingrained in their music, evident in tracks like “King of Action Rock” that ignite a thrilling energy throughout the album. Lead vocalist and guitarist, Pete, shares that the song “Shock O’clock” set the tone for the album, with a guitar riff reminiscent of Nirvana. Despite starting with a hopeless outlook on humanity’s future, tracks like “The Voice of the Underdogs” offer a glimmer of hope, emphasizing the importance of kindness.
Aside from digital platforms, Nightmares and Broken Dreams has also been released on vinyl and CD formats. Dharma Guns’ music echoes the sounds of iconic bands like MC5, The Hellacopters, and The Lords of the New Church, paying homage to the roots of action rock. The album presents a cohesive and concentrated expression of their distinctive style, with song titles like “Devil’s Beat”, “Fear of Getting Bored”, and “Clowns in the Castles” setting the album’s mood.
However, Dharma Guns also ventures into new territories with tracks like “Bruised Body and a Broken Knee” that lean into blues influences and “Black Cloud” featuring acoustic elements. Reflecting on the creation of “Black Cloud,” Pete labels it as their ‘grunge ballad’, addressing the planet’s struggles with the climate crisis. Similarly, “Bruised Body and a Broken Knee” delves into the theme of our connection to our physical bodies in different ways.
The album release was preceded by singles like “King of Action Rock”, “Devil’s Beat”, “Scale of the Universe”, and “The Voice of the Underdogs”. Building on the success of their debut album, Ex-Generation Superstars, released in 2024, Dharma Guns is gearing up for a UK tour alongside glam punk legend Steve Vincent.
The band’s upcoming shows in Helsinki and Turku will coincide with the release of Nightmares and Broken Dreams, promising electrifying performances and a chance to witness the raw energy of action rock in its purest form. With compelling storytelling, dynamic instrumentals, and thought-provoking messages, Dharma Guns’ latest album cements their position as a formidable force in the world of rock music.
