Emptiness announces release date for new album “Nowhere Speaks” on July 17th, 2026.

Belgian extreme music entity Emptiness, born in Brussels in 1998, is set to unveil its seventh full-length album, titled “Nowhere Speaks,” through Season of Mist. The ten-track record kicks off not with an introduction but a seamless continuation from where their 2014 album “Nothing but the Whole” left off, leaving followers in silence. This intentional break is resolved in “Nowhere Speaks,” closing the loop by linking back to the opening riff of the previous record.

“Nowhere Speaks” constructs a universe detached from human presence, governed by enigmatic forces operating independently of the audience. The music of this album differs significantly from its predecessor, “Vide” released in 2021. The new record embraces weight, intensity, and a live full-band sound, as opposed to the distortion-free, French-sung, isolated nature of the previous album. Almost the entirety of “Nowhere Speaks” was captured live in the studio after years of meticulous preparation, testing, and rehearsals, resulting in a raw, organic quality devoid of post-produced processing.

Emptiness invites listeners to immerse themselves in a realm that defies understanding. The album demands entry rather than comprehension, pushing the boundaries of extreme music into uncharted territories. The deliberate connection between the openers and closers of “Nothing but the Whole” and “Nowhere Speaks” creates a cyclical narrative, encapsulating the band’s philosophy of everything and nothing intertwining endlessly.

Since its inception, Emptiness has aimed to explore darkness as terrain rather than an aesthetic concept. Drawing influences from black and death metal, the band forged a distinct sound marked by experimental tendencies. Their early demos garnered attention in the underground music scene, establishing a unique presence in their Belgian hometown.

The band hit their stride with “Oblivion” in 2007, showcasing exceptional production, commanding instruments, and an atmospheric weight that solidified their place in metal circles. Subsequent releases like “Error” (2012) and “Nothing but the Whole” (2014) continued to push boundaries, culminating in a departure from extreme metal conventions with “Not For Music” (2017). The album expanded their sonic palette, incorporating goth rock, coldwave, industrial, and post-punk elements to create a dark, immersive experience.

“Vide” (2021) marked a departure from traditional metal structure, sung entirely in French with a stripped-down, distortion-free sound. The album was a reflection of confinement and disorientation, mirroring the global uncertainty of the times. Emptiness cemented their status in experimental circles by performing the album in its entirety at Roadburn Redux 2021, showcasing their avant-garde credentials.

Emptiness operates with full artistic autonomy, with Jérémie Bézier handling production duties and Olivier J.L.W. overseeing the visual aspects of the project. Each element is meticulously crafted from within, forming a self-contained ecosystem of sound and image that defines the band’s unique identity.
