Greg Mendez has unveiled his latest track and music video, “No Evil,” as a precursor to his upcoming album, “Beauty Land,” set to be released on May 29th under Dead Oceans. The new single, accompanied by a surreal and uncanny video directed by longtime collaborator Douglas Dulgarian, features a unique blend of imagery including CPR dummies, parking signs, and scenes from the streets of Philadelphia.

In describing the inspiration behind the song, Mendez reveals, “A lot of the time I feel locked inside my own head, maybe all these screens. I’m not sure if I can tell the difference anymore.” He further explains that the song does not directly address this feeling but allows it to permeate in a more coincidental manner, similar to how a landscape painting can capture the sky without being solely ‘about’ the sky.

The album, already earning accolades from esteemed outlets such as Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Paste, presents Mendez as a wry yet compassionate narrator, a character who has learned to navigate the complexities of cynicism and faith. Through introspective and confessional lyrics, Mendez invites listeners into his world of imperfection, conveyed through shimmering guitars, infectious melodies, and a voice that exudes innocence.

Much of “Beauty Land” was meticulously recorded on tape by Mendez himself, within the confines of his dimly lit home studio in Philadelphia. This upcoming release follows his unexpected breakthrough in 2023 with his self-titled album, which gained recognition after years of crafting music in obscurity between New York and Philly. “Beauty Land” continues the exploration of grief, love, and addiction, showcasing Mendez’s evolution as a songwriter with its profound yet lucid storytelling.

To support the release of “Beauty Land,” Mendez will embark on a North American tour this summer, with UK dates expected later in the year. The tour will feature stops across major cities, marking an exciting chapter in Mendez’s musical journey.

The tracklist for “Beauty Land” comprises introspective titles such as “I Wanna Feel Pretty,” “Mary/Dreaming,” “Sunsick,” and the lead single, “No Evil.” Each song offers a glimpse into Mendez’s emotive songwriting, blending vulnerability with melodic sensibilities that resonate deeply with his audience.

Greg Mendez’s forthcoming album promises to captivate listeners with its raw and authentic approach to storytelling. Drawing from personal experiences and emotions, Mendez’s music channels a sense of introspection and vulnerability that transcends the confines of traditional indie rock. As fans await the release of “Beauty Land,” Mendez’s evocative music continues to garner critical acclaim and connect with audiences on a profound level.
