The bond shared by the members of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard must be incredibly strong, considering the close proximity in which they work, especially within the realm of artistry. Formed in 2010, this Australian band has seen consistent membership since at least 2011, producing an impressive collection of 27 albums, three EPs, and 73 live albums over the years. However, their upcoming album seems to mark a departure from their previous work.

Known for their diverse range of music styles, from metal to jam band, psychedelic rock to prog and electronica, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are now venturing into new territory with the creation of a pure techno record. This shift in genre is an exciting development for fans eagerly anticipating this fresh sound.

The completion of the record has been hinted at through a teaser posted on Instagram by the band, showcasing a network of wires connecting synths, accompanied by techno sounds. While the album does not yet have a title or set release date, fans can expect its debut sometime in 2026. However, it is unlikely to appear on Spotify, as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard removed their music from the streaming platform due to founder Daniel Ek’s involvement with Helsing, a company dealing with drones for military use and AI software.

In response, the band has made their music available on Bandcamp, allowing fans to grab a copy of their records at a price they can afford, recognizing the financial constraints that some followers may face when trying to keep up with their discography. This is particularly true for their live albums, which are numerous and varied in style.

Critically acclaimed for their ability to excel in any subgenre they choose to explore, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have proven time and again that their musical creativity knows no bounds. This versatility has even sparked speculation among fans about the band potentially collaborating with bluegrass artist Billy Strings for an upcoming project.

Looking ahead, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard already have a few tour dates scheduled for 2026, including performances at Meadow Creek (Field of Vision II) in Buena Vista, CO, and multiple shows at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, NY. These shows promise to be a showcase of the band’s evolution and experimentation with their sound, bringing a new and exciting experience to their loyal fan base.
